First Aid at Work

Course Outline

This is a 3 day course for up to 10 delegates, suitable for larger or higher risk businesses needing designated first aiders to cover a wide variety of potential work place incidents. The course can be carried out either at your premises or at Milne Safety (see open courses for dates)

During the course, the following elements will be covered.

The role of the first aider, including reference to the use of available equipment
The need to record incidents and actions
Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
Administer first at aid to a casualty who is wounded, bleeding and/or in shock
Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
The importance of basic hygiene in first aid procedures
Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious
Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Recognising the presence of major illness and applying general first aid principles in its management
Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries
Practical use of an Automated External Defibrillator
In addition, candidates should be able to demonstrate the correct first aid management of: Soft tissue injuries
Injuries to bones including suspected spinal injuries
Chest injuries
Burns and scalds
Eye injuries including how to irrigate an eye
Sudden poisoning and anaphylactic shock
Includes a final practical assessment

Important Information

The certificate is valid for 3 years and delegates will need to attend a two day re-qualification course every 3 years in order to continue being a first aider. Students are also advised to attend a 3 hour Skills Refresher course on an annual basis.

All our First Aid courses are held in a relaxed atmosphere. For the delegate to understand the role of a First Aider and to feel confident in using their skills.
